Nate who?

Nate Robinson. I'm in my second season as a guard for the New York Knicks.

I was a first-round draft pick out of the University of Washington, where I helped take the Huskies to the Sweet 16.

It’s been a long road from high school. No one wanted to give me a chance in hoops at first – don’t know if they thought I was too small or what – but they underestimated me. I even went to Washington on a football scholarship before convincing Coach Romar I could make an impact on the hardwood. Now I'm gonna be the next big thing in the NBA -- even though I'm 5-foot-9.

Summer time ... time to improve my game

Posted: Thursday, May 31 at 12:01 am ET by Nate Robinson

I learned a lot about my game this season, made some improvements, and have a good idea of how I can get better.

I was way more poised this season and had a better understanding of the game. I didn’t force things, but learned to let the game come to me. That’s something I’m going to work on more in the future.

Things looking up for Knicks

Posted: Tuesday, May 15 at 07:59 pm ET by Nate Robinson

In looking back at our season, I think there is a lot of reason for optimism. I think the team chemistry was there. I’d give us a  C or C+. Toward the end of the season a couple of guys got hurt. Jamal Crawford was out. Quentin Richardson was out. David Lee was out. Steve Francis was out. We had a lot of guys with injuries and the young guys stepped up.

I don’t believe in bad or good luck, but we got hit by injuries. With me, Mardy Collins and those guys, we had to step up. With all those guys hurt, that’s 60 points a night gone right there. But that just happens, that’s the way the world goes.

Kobe, not Dirk, should be MVP

Posted: Tuesday, May 1 at 08:58 pm ET by Nate Robinson

It’s time to make my picks for NBA awards, so let’s get right to it.

There has been a lot of buzz about Dirk Nowitzki for MVP this season, but I would have to go with Kobe Bryant. He’s had an unbelievable season, scoring at least 50 points 10 times! The Lakers have had a lot of injury problems, but they still made the playoffs, and it's all because of Kobe.

I think Steve Nash has had a great year and I think it would be cool if he won it for a third straight year, but I think Kobe should be the pick.

Pick Mavs to win title

Posted: Wednesday, April 25 at 12:05 am ET by Nate Robinson

The NBA playoffs will be interesting to watch as there are dangerous teams in both the East and the West.

It would be kind of good to see a team from the East win again, since everyone says the West is best. So I wouldn’t mind seeing Miami win it again.

All-Star fun

Posted: Thursday, April 5 at 10:36 pm ET by Nate Robinson

Sorry it has taken me so long, but I wanted to tell you all about the All-Star weekend. I was a lot of fun and I had a wonderful time. It was hot there, but what a great time. My Mom and my Dad and my stepdad came out to Vegas.

I had a blast in the dunk contest, even  though I came in second place. And when Gerald Green went to jump over me, I had to put my shirt over my head for a second. I was thinking he’d clear me, but I didn’t want to look. He hit my shoulder a little bit but it was no big deal.

Overall it was great fun, though. Shaq talked some trash to me from the stands –- he’s a funny guy. And I talked to Vince Carter in the lobby afterwards. He said he thought I did well, and my scores should have been higher.

Finding my groove

Posted: Thursday, March 29 at 12:08 am ET by Nate Robinson

I had one of my best games the other night against my old college teammate Brandon Roy and the Portland Trail Blazers. I made eight 3-pointers and scored a season-best 31  points. The scoring wasn’t a career high (I scored 34 last season vs. Philly, and 32 against Cleveland.

But the eight threes was more than I’ve ever made in my life! I think I made six 3-pointers once in high school, and I made 5 or 6 in a game at Washington.

I don’t know what happened, I was just feeling it though.

Kobe's hot streak amazing

Posted: Monday, March 26 at 02:39 am ET by Nate Robinson

I’m am simply amazed at what Kobe Bryant has done over the last week, scoring at least 50 points in four straight games. I don’t think people know just how hard it is to score that much.

To average 20 points a game, you have to get five points a quarter, which might not sound that hard. But it is tough! You have to get the touches, you have to get to the line and make your free throws, it’s just hard.

Aside from Kobe, the only other player to score at least 50 in four straight games was Wilt Chamberlain, who did it in seven straight games in the 1961-62 season. That alone should show you how tough it is. And Wilt was over 7-feet tall!

The most I ever scored was 59 points, and that was in an AAU game. I also scored 45 in a high school summer league game once.

Kobe has got to be an MVP candidate, but even with all the points he’s scoring, he’s hardly a lock, not with Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki around.

Kobe has a chance, but I don’t think he’ll win it because those other guys are doing so well, and winning so many games. It will come down to Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki, in my opinion.

That just shows you how many great players we have in the NBA.

Time to focus on playoffs

Posted: Monday, February 19 at 02:45 am ET by Nate Robinson

Now that All-Star weekend is behind us, it's time to focus on the second half of the season. Looking at the standings now, we are sitting on 23 wins, matching the number we had all of last season.

I know we still have a long way to go, but I can’t help but feel excited about the improvements we’ve made since last season.

We’re the best rebounding team in the East and one of the better scoring teams, too. If we cut down on our turnovers and just keep chipping away, we can move up in the East, and even become a playoff team. I really believe that.

Serving up a special dunk

Posted: Thursday, February 15 at 11:33 pm ET by Nate Robinson

How can I top this? (REUTERS/Lucy Nicholson)

The difficult thing going into the Slam Dunk Contest is how to top last year’s dunk where I leaped over Spud Webb. That will be tough!

(Click here to see some of my dunk highlights)

But I think I can top it, as I’ve got something special planned. I’m not going to give anything away, but I will say that as far as I know, one of my dunks has never been done in a dunk contest before. So hopefully that will be exciting. I won’t be using any props or anything on this one, it will just be me. And I’m hoping it will be one of the best dunks ever.

Star struck by dunk judges?

Posted: Wednesday, February 14 at 02:29 am ET by Nate Robinson

The Slam Dunk Contest will be great fun in Las Vegas this year, as I’ll be trying to defend my title against three big guys: Orlando’s Dwight Howard (6-11), Chicago’s Tyrus Thomas (6-9) and Boston’s Gerald Green (6-8).

They should be tough, but maybe the most distracting aspect of the competition will be the judges … have you seen the list? It’s an incredible group of the best dunkers ever: Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Dr. J, Kobe Bryant and Vince Carter.
